How we are helping clients.
Anxiety and stress issues.
We all have anxious thoughts. This is entirely normal. We are evolved over time from our ancient ancestors who were constantly on the lookout for danger. So we often hear thoughts or see pictures in our mind telling us of danger or troublesome times ahead. It is when these thoughts become fused and we cannot clear them and we struggle with these anxious thoughts and they stop us from leading the life we were meant to lead that they become an issue.
We show clients how to stay grounded when anxious thoughts become troubling using grounding techniques, tools and strategies. Clients learn how they become disconnected when anxious thoughts become fused in the mind. And the more we struggle to clear these anxious thoughts the worse the anxiety becomes. We show clients how to defuse the anxious thoughts which reduces their power. We then work on values and taking committed action towards those values which further reduces the hold of the anxious thoughts.
The great news is many people who suffer from anxiety and anxious thoughts can find a path to an amazing and rich life without the struggle. We always will have moments of anxiety, it is how to work with the anxiety when it shows up that helps us to lead our best life possible.

Addiction.
Addictive behaviour can be debilitating, horrible and devastating. We have seen clients struggle for many years against many forms of addiction. We do not see addiction as a 'disease' we understand that all of us have addictive thoughts and urges. It is when we become powerless to resist the urges or thoughts and they become fused in our mind that we have trouble.
Our counsellor, Matthew Reynolds, at various times in his life has been impacted by drug, alcohol and gambling addiction so we get how crippling addiction can be.
We understand that many people try so many things to stop addiction - they try AA or NA, they try stop thinking about the addiction, they try banning themselves from premises or alike. We see clients try everything to stop being an addict - and this is totally normal and rational. However there is another way, without the struggle.
We begin by showing clients how the struggle is not working and by trying to block addictive thoughts they become more powerful. We show clients how to defuse the power of addictive thoughts, to diminish their power and also how to use skills and strategies so these addictive thoughts do not have the power to take over your life. We then show clients how to live a value driven life and take committed action. Many clients, once burdened by addiction, are now leading a rich, full and meaningful life.
We are having considerable success working with clients impacted by gambling, alcohol, work, pornography, sex and other addictions.

Gender and sexuality issues.
We see many clients with 'self-esteem' issues around gender and sexuality issues. We discuss with clients how self-esteem is not something to focus on - its based around thoughts rather than meaningful actions. We show clients how to practice self-kindness and self-acceptance. We work on values and how much of life's meaning and richness is derived from living a value driven life without worrying about others opinions.
Social Media and loneliness.
Loneliness is an ever increasing issue in society, so you are not alone. Feelings of loneliness and isolation can often be increased through the use of social media which often has the illusion of connection and intimacy. There is a human tendency to view feelings of loneliness as bad and want to avoid them and this leads to a struggle against feelings which often leads to further distress. We work with clients slowly on self-compassion and learning to hold feelings without judgement. We then look at your values and if those values are to be social and connected to other humans we commence work on small goals that involve committed action to begin the journey to becoming more connected and leading a full and meaningful life.
